The Country Director of International Alert Nigeria, Dr. Kingsley Udo, has backed the call by the Women Environmental Programme, WEP, for a more deliberate and gender-responsive approach to addressing climate change.
Udo made the call while speaking at the launch of an assessment report by WEP, saying the report has opened up greater understanding of the gender dimensions of climate change.
He stressed that stakeholders must not remain gender-blind or gender-neutral in tackling climate-related challenges, urging them to take a clear position and recognise the different ways climate change affects people.
The International Alert Country Director described the report as valuable knowledge and a useful tool for advocacy, engagement and developing more intentional responses to climate change.
Udo said International Alert Nigeria would engage its donors and partners to support the implementation of the report’s recommendations, stressing the need to translate the findings into concrete action rather than allowing them to remain on paper.
