IGP Muhammed Adamu (rtd.) has said that he was not threatened by the recent endorsement of an aspirant under the All Progressives Congress APC in Nasarawa State for governorship election next year.
Governor Abdullahi Sule had in last month presented an aspirant to President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja for endorsement for this months primary election of APC.
Reactions have trailed Governor Sule’s action as some of the aspirants felt not consulted before such decision was taken.
IGP Adamu(rtd) who submited his interest and nomination forms at Ladi Kwali hall, Abuja Continental Hotel to contest governorship position said the Nasarawa People are solidly behind him in the race.
Adding that he is not threatened by any other aspirants vying for the same position in the state.
Adamu said, “The governor is a human being, just like any other person. And he feels that he has a preferred candidate. So he has the right to do that. Just like you, maybe in Nasarawa state you don’t prefer Wadada, you prefer somebody like me. It’s also your choice”.
He added that, “So we don’t take offence at all. All that we want is to appeal to the people in the state for them to give us support”.
While asking about his priorities if he eventually cliched the APC ticket in Nasarawa, Ex-IGP said security of lives and property is central to him.
“I think the first objective when we get there is to talk of security, to make sure that everybody is safe in the state. We need to provide physical security and human security and all aspects of security”.
“We have to look into it and establish that. The moment we establish a solid foundation of security, then it will be very easy for us to achieve other projects, developmental projects for the state. We have a lot of initiatives for the women, for the youth and for the economic development of the state.
So my first priority is to provide adequate security in the state”, he said.
He also reassured of his readiness and capacity to win APC governorship ticket in the state this month.
“I am officially in the race for governorship of Nasarawa State. With this process, we have started the process of mobilising our supporters towards the primary election. We are fully aware that the primary election is through direct primaries”.
“We have teaming supporters and we will go back before the day of the primaries again to sensitise and mobilise our supporters so as to come out on the day of the primary election. We are confident that today after the primary election we need their support”, he said.
A tumultuous crowd from Nasarawa accompanied the ex-IGP to the venue to submit his 50 million naira forms to the leadership of the party.
