ABUJA – The Nigeria Immigration Service has enrolled no fewer than 8,552 Nigerians in passport intervention exercises across the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
The exercises, carried out under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, were designed to bring passport services closer to Nigerians living abroad and improve service delivery.
According to a statement by the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the intervention exercises were conducted in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.
The service enrolled 535 applicants in Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee in the United States between September 7 and 15, 2026.
In Canada, 2,257 Nigerians were enrolled across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick between September 6 and 19.
Similarly, 751 Nigerians benefited from the intervention exercise in Qatar between August 9 and 24.
The ongoing exercise in the United Kingdom, covering London and Manchester, has so far enrolled 5,099 applicants.
The NIS said passport production and dispatch were being carried out concurrently in the UK as the intervention exercise continues.
It advised Nigerians who were unable to secure appointment slots, as well as those who may not wish to visit the intervention centres or the Nigerian High Commission physically, to use the Contactless Passport Application System.
The service reiterated its commitment to providing accessible, efficient and convenient passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
