ABUJA – The Nigeria Immigration Service has extended its ongoing Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks following a high turnout of Nigerians seeking to obtain or renew their passports.
The exercise, which is being conducted at intervention centres in London and Manchester, was initially scheduled to run until September 19, 2026.
However, the NIS said on Friday that the exercise had been extended to October 3, 2026, to accommodate the increasing demand and ensure that more eligible Nigerians are attended to.
The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, saying 1,477 Nigerians had been successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the exercise.
Akinlabi said more than half of those enrolled had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.
He said the exercise had progressed smoothly at the London and Manchester centres despite initial challenges recorded on the first day.
According to him, eligible applicants are required to book appointments through the official website of the High Commission of Nigeria in the United Kingdom and present their completed application forms and payment receipts, appointment slips, current passports where applicable, and self-addressed return envelopes.
The NIS spokesperson reiterated that passport applications and payment processes remained fully automated and strictly cashless.
He said the applicable fees were $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet, stressing that applicants would not be required to pay any additional charges for participation in the intervention exercise.
Akinlabi said the extension was approved by the NIS under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in response to the high turnout and growing interest in the exercise.
He added that details of the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through the official channels of the NIS and the High Commission of Nigeria in the UK.
