ABUJA – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has embarked on a two-week vacation outside Nigeria to rest and fine-tune strategies for the 2027 general elections.

The break comes as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the crucial polls, with Yilwatda expected to use the period to reflect on the party’s performance and map out strategies for the next phase of its electoral campaign.

The Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the vacation followed an “exceptionally demanding and eventful” first year of Yilwatda’s tenure.

Tooki said the APC chairman would use the period to “rest, retool and further sharpen his strategic thinking” ahead of the 2027 elections, which he described as a defining moment for the party and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

According to him, Yilwatda’s schedule over the past year had involved extensive consultations, travels and engagements with governors, lawmakers, party leaders, state structures and other stakeholders.

He said the APC had also concluded its National Convention and conducted primary elections at various levels under Yilwatda’s leadership, positioning the party for the 2027 electoral battle.

Tooki added that the chairman would use the respite to put finishing touches to plans for the forthcoming National Working Committee retreat, where the party is expected to review its performance, identify emerging challenges and agree on strategies for the months ahead.

“The retreat is expected to further strengthen coordination within the NWC and enhance the party’s preparedness for the demanding electoral season ahead,” he said.

The APC spokesman stressed that Yilwatda’s temporary absence from the country would not affect the running of the party, noting that the National Working Committee would continue to discharge its responsibilities in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Yilwatda is expected back in Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation to resume his engagements with renewed energy and focus on the 2027 elections.
