ABUJA – The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has mourned the death of renowned Yoruba leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing him as a symbol of principled leadership and Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100, was a prominent leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, and a lifelong disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Tunji-Ojo, in a tribute to the late statesman, said his death marked the loss of a respected national figure whose contributions to Nigeria’s political development and democratic growth would remain indelible.

He noted that Fasoranti dedicated his life to selfless service, justice, true federalism and the dignity of the Yoruba people, while remaining committed to national unity and democratic values.

According to the minister, the late elder statesman’s principled stand on national issues and unwavering commitment to his convictions earned him respect across generations and political divides.

Tunji-Ojo recalled that Nigerians had recently gathered in Lagos to celebrate Fasoranti on attaining the age of 100, describing the occasion as a rare honour that reflected the depth of admiration he commanded across the country.

He said the centenary celebration, which recognised a life of remarkable service and sacrifice, had now given way to solemn reflection on the loss of a national icon.

The minister added that Fasoranti’s wisdom, moral clarity and contributions to the political evolution of Ondo State and Nigeria would be greatly missed.

Tunji-Ojo extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Ondo State, members of Afenifere and all those who drew inspiration from the late leader’s life and principles.

He prayed that Almighty God would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family and associates.

“Adieu, Pa Fasoranti. Your legacy of courage, service and integrity endures,” the minister said.
