ABUJA – Two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service have made history on the global and continental sporting stages, earning accolades for themselves, the service and Nigeria.
ASI 1 Azeez Moridiyyah Motunrayo emerged world champion and gold medallist in the W50 Masters Javelin event at the ongoing World Masters Athletics Competition in South Korea.
In a separate feat, ASI Kayode Ajilore led Nigeria’s Continental Beach Volleyball contingent to a historic double achievement at the African Beach Volleyball Continental Championship.
The achievement saw Nigeria win its first-ever continental title in the competition and, in the process, secure the country’s maiden Olympic qualification ticket in Beach Volleyball for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, said the achievements had brought immense pride to the service and the country.
Akinlabi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nana-Nandap, on behalf of the officers and men of the service, congratulated the two officers for their outstanding performances.
He said the feats exemplified excellence, dedication, resilience and national pride, noting that the achievements further demonstrated the capacity of NIS officers to excel beyond their core responsibilities.
The NIS leadership further commended the officers for their remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s sporting success and wished them continued success on the global stage.
