The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nana Nandap, has condemned the actions of alleged misconduct bordering on extortion by its personnel along the Lagos-Seme Border of the country.
CGI in a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, depicted the reports as such conduct remained unacceptable and stands in direct violation of the core values, ethics, and operational standards of the Service.
Akinlabi said the CGI has temporarily relieved the Comptrollers in charge of the affected Commands of their duties and has directed a thorough investigation surrounding the incidents.
The investigation according to the statement will among other things allow for the identification of all officers involved, and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are applied with immediate effect.
The Service therefore reassures the general public, that it remains committed to delivering professional, transparent, and efficient services at all points of entry and exit. It will not condone any act that undermines public trust or tarnishes the integrity of the Service.
It added that, ‘To this end, members of the public are encouraged to continue to report any form of misconduct, through the Service official social media channels’.
