A University don has taken to his Facebook page to explain how a state traffic management in Kogi State extorted him for unknown offense and what he described as the duty and responsibility of FRSC or VIO.

The lecturer narrated how an organization, Kogi State Traffic Management Authority (KOTORAMA) arrested him for minor vehicular offense after rigorous search into his car for possible infractions.

He narrates:’It’s quite surprising to see different organizations working to control and manage traffics on Nigeria roads.

Organizations like Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Federal Road Safety Corps Nigeria , Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and state-owned organizations like KOTMAN.

‘In Lokoja today 16th March 2026, it was very strange to meet some people that called themselves KOTMAN, they appeared untrained and do not even understand what road rules are, very uncultured and behaving like thugs’.

‘They stopped my vehicle on the road and asked for my driver’s license which I provided, they asked for vehicle papers, which I provided, they asked for my fire extinguisher which I provided, they said I should match my brake which I did and they said I should put my vehicle in a reverse gear to check my brake light, and they said one of the indicating light for reverse is not functioning well’.

‘They celebrated that they’ve caught me. One of them even boasted that his uncle is a DVC at FUL, and they dragged my vehicle to their office and wrote on a paper that I should pay N70,000.00, and they forcefully collected N50,000.00 from my uncle Dr. Fatai on this issue.

‘On this paper are different offences and the penalties, but they did not tuck any of the offences, but asked that I should pay N70,000.00’, he said.
He therefore pleaded with Kogi State governor to either withdraw the ‘untrained’ KOTORAMA or restate the rules of engagement for them.

‘I want to plead with the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo that the people they recruited to man roads that duplicates the work of FRSC should be either withdrawn or told what they are to do. They are collecting money from innocent road users, and Kogi State Government should direct them to refund our N50,000.00 ooo’, he said.

‘Of what purpose is the work of those who know nothing about road laws. Kogi State Government should do the needful’.

‘Road users are lamenting ooo!Stop irregular revenue generation via this means!
Kogi State Government should direct them to refund my N50,000.00’, he said.
