ABUJA – The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to address personnel management challenges, promotion bottlenecks and career progression within the Force.
Disu made the call on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during a visit to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), in Abuja.
The IGP stressed the need for closer institutional cooperation in handling personnel matters, noting that both organisations must work together while respecting their respective statutory responsibilities.
He identified imbalances in the Force’s rank structure as one of the challenges requiring urgent attention, particularly issues affecting career advancement within the Inspectorate cadre.
Disu also called for sustained engagement on the review of the Scheme of Service to ensure fairness, transparency and merit in the administration of personnel matters.
He commended the Commission for recognising the sacrifices and contributions of police personnel and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to maintaining a constructive working relationship with the PSC.
Responding, the PSC Chairman described the visit as timely and assured the IGP that the concerns raised would receive the Commission’s attention.
Argungu emphasised that mutual understanding and respect for the responsibilities of both institutions were critical to strengthening their partnership and supporting the Nigeria Police Force in fulfilling its security mandate.
He also expressed the Commission’s readiness to work with the Force on the review of the Scheme of Service and other personnel development initiatives.
The PSC chairman further underscored the importance of merit, competence and performance in recruitment and promotion processes, stressing the need for continuous capacity development to equip officers with the skills required for modern policing.
