Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has applauded the Edo State Government’s crackdown on suspected kidnappers, while maintaining his criticism of the administration’s governance record.
In a statement signed by Deji Adeyanju, he said although he has consistently criticised the governor and remains opposed to what he described as the administration’s failed governance style, the governor deserves commendation for his firm stance against kidnapping in the state.
Adeyanju specifically cited the identification and prosecution of suspected kidnappers, as well as the demolition of properties and hideouts allegedly linked to criminal activities.
He said the measures send a strong message that kidnapping and other violent crimes will not be tolerated, urging the governor to intensify the efforts and take the fight directly to criminal elements.
The activist called for stronger preventive measures, particularly through the full utilisation of community policing and the strengthening of security structures at the ward and local government levels.
Adeyanju said empowering communities to provide timely intelligence would strengthen efforts to prevent kidnappings before they occur, and urged the Edo State Government to sustain the fight against criminal activities.
