The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 75 kidnapped victims, including men, women and children, who were abducted by armed men in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were reportedly travelling in commercial buses when they were intercepted by gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at about 5:30pm.
The police said it received credible information from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers about the abduction.
Following the report, a crack team from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the area.
According to the command, the victims had been taken into a forest and concealed in a cave located in a mountainous area.
The police operatives, on sighting the heavily armed security team, reportedly fled into the forest, abandoning their captives.
The 75 victims were subsequently rescued unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW officials in Birnin Gwari for providing timely information that facilitated the rescue operation.
Muhammad also praised the Area Commander, Birnin Gwari, and his men for their swift and professional response.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police.
The CP further warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that such actions could result in the loss of innocent lives.
