ABUJA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate assessment of the Kuje–Kwaku–Yenche–Rubochi–Abaji Road following appeals by residents and political stakeholders over the deplorable condition of the route.

Wike gave the directive during an interactive session with members of the Rainbow Coalition in Kuje Area Council, where political leaders, youths, women and traditional representatives called for urgent intervention on the road.

The minister requested that the assessment report be submitted without delay, raising hopes of a possible commencement of the long-awaited road project.

The meeting, hosted by the Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, also witnessed renewed calls for political unity and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shekwolo welcomed Wike and other political stakeholders, describing Kuje as the first area council to embrace the Rainbow Coalition and establish its office.

He said the gathering was organised to sensitise residents on the political direction ahead of the 2027 elections, while commending the FCT minister for his leadership and contributions to the development of Kuje.

The chairman particularly praised ongoing road infrastructure projects, including the Airport Road–Tipper Garage corridor and the Tipper Garage–Gwagwalada route, as well as the upgrading of traditional institutions in the FCT.

He noted that the Rainbow Coalition had strengthened cooperation between leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kuje, fostering unity and collective decision-making.

According to him, the growing cooperation among political stakeholders would improve the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections.

The FCT APC Chairman also commended Wike for promoting a more peaceful political atmosphere in the territory, saying the emerging political environment had encouraged engagement and cooperation rather than the attacks on individuals and property associated with previous political activities.

He described the alliance between APC and PDP stakeholders under the Rainbow Coalition as an opportunity to advance development across the FCT and urged political leaders to consolidate the gains through collective action.

Similarly, the PDP FCT Chairman praised Wike’s developmental initiatives but appealed to him to prioritise the Kuje–Kwaku–Yenche–Rubochi–Abaji Road, describing it as critical to residents and communities along the corridor.

He also called on political stakeholders to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and other candidates endorsed by the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Kuje youths’ leader, Alhaji Abubakar Gude, assured the minister of the support of young people in the area, disclosing that youth campaign groups were being organised to mobilise voters across communities.

Gude also commended Wike for establishing a youth secretariat to provide a platform for engagement, representation and the consideration of issues affecting young people.

A female stakeholder, Hon. Aisha Yakubu, similarly praised the minister for creating a women’s secretariat to strengthen women’s participation in political and developmental activities.

She urged Wike to ensure that women were adequately represented in the coalition’s activities and appealed for urgent intervention on the Kuje–Kwaku–Yenche–Rubochi–Abaji Road.

The Hakimi of Agoi, who spoke on behalf of traditional institutions, also called for the construction of the road, stressing its importance to communities that depend on the route for transportation and economic activities.

He further praised Senator Aduda’s political record in Kuje, claiming that the senator had never lost an election in the area council.

Speaking on behalf of political stakeholders, Senator Usman Jibrin Wowo said the people of Kuje had sufficient reasons to support the APC, citing the administration’s developmental initiatives and the need for continuity.

He assured Wike that stakeholders had resolved to mobilise support for APC candidates across elective positions in the FCT in 2027.

In his remarks, Wike urged Senator Aduda to remain committed to defending and advancing the interests of FCT residents.

The minister said the Rainbow Coalition had created an avenue for political stakeholders in Abuja and Rivers State to work together and openly support the APC through cooperation and unity.

He urged residents to avoid what he described as the political mistakes of 2019, stressing the need for strategic decisions in the forthcoming elections.

Wike also expressed support for Aduda’s return to the Senate, arguing that his experience and familiarity with the challenges confronting FCT residents positioned him to represent their interests effectively.

He cautioned voters against being swayed by promises from politicians who lacked a clear understanding of the people’s needs, urging them to consider candidates with proven experience and commitment to public service.

The minister highlighted the achievements of his administration in the FCT and assured residents of continued development.

The meeting ended with participants expressing support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and the return of Aduda to the Senate, alongside Hon. Danladi Chiya as representative for Abuja South, in the 2027 general elections.
