Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has called for a thorough investigation into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director with the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Adeda reportedly went to work at the Ministry in Asaba but did not return home, with his death on Friday, September 25, 2026, following an incident at the Ministry the previous day.

In a statement, Omo-Agege said the police had confirmed the incident and commenced a homicide investigation, while three persons — Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh — had been named in connection with allegations that Adeda was assaulted.

He stressed that the exact cause of Adeda’s death must be established through a proper investigation, noting that any conclusion must be based on evidence rather than speculation.

Omo-Agege acknowledged the police response but urged the authorities to ensure that the investigation is thorough, swift and free from external pressure, with anyone found responsible facing prosecution.

He also called for the immediate location and questioning of Attah and Okestine, while noting that Lucky Adoh is already in police custody.

The former senator further urged Delta State Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu to step aside while investigations continue, arguing that the move would help maintain public confidence in the process, given that the incident allegedly occurred in his office.

Omo-Agege also demanded the public release of the findings of the Administrative Panel and the police investigation, saying the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death must not be allowed to disappear from public attention.
